Bio
Born and raised on Long Island, New York, Joe Kiernan has become an international
musician and instructor. Joe has played and earned acclaim from musicians, audiences,
and students alike. Joe Kiernan holds a music education degree from the Crane School
of Music at S.U.N.Y. Potsdam with a concentration in classical guitar.
For the past four years he lived in Paraguay where he taught at the American School
of Asuncion. There he also performed with jazz and theory professors from the Asuncion
Conservatory of Music. Headlining the Asuncion Jazz Festival in 2005, he was the first
American to perform with Paraguayan musicians under his own name. Joe was also invited
to perform for the U.S. Ambassador and for President Niconor of Paraguay. In addition
to this he helped form a 17 piece jazz ensemble madeup of the most talented high school
students in the capital city with the help of trombonist Remegio Pereira.
In 2000 Joe was teaching at Richmond High School in Richmond, California.While living in
theEast Bay, Joe performed in some of San Francisco’s finest establishments
including Hotel Utah and Enrico’s.Presently living in Fairfield, Connecticut, Joe is a private guitar teacher and performer.
Joe is currently on faculty of the National Guitar Workshop where he teaches classes in
jazz, blues, rock, and folk.
